sleeping under the stairs

Our dog has started sleeping right under the stairs as far back as she can go. She clambers over boxes and shoes etc to get there.

She does it mainly after we have gone to bed and we can hear as she does it, however she has also started doing it when shut in the kitchen.

We have a big kitchen with her bed, that then goes through to a galley Utility room, with the stairs at the end.

Any ideas why this maybe happening, she has been spayed so I know she is not nesting....

I am just wondering, if she prefers to be there, then to clear everything out to make it easier.

Any and all ideas/advice welcome....

Thanks Sarah

Re: sleeping under the stairs

Maybe it feels cosy in there?
My cat slept there for a whole day when we moved- she must have felt safe.

If she loves it so much there's no harm in making it easier for her to get to

Re: sleeping under the stairs

Thanks for your reply Poison girl.

Like you say maybe I should make it more cosy for her.

I am interested to undersatnd why after nearly a year and half she has started to do it...

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with their dogs...

:-)

Re: sleeping under the stairs

Natural denning behaviour. Make it nice for her if that's what she wants.
