Pup rubbing on walls

Hello,

I have an 18 month old black lab called Dex, we got him when he was only 6 months old, but not long after we got him he started to develop a parculiar habit.

Dexter loves to rub one side of himself across walls on our upstairs landing. There is no urgency to this, he is very relaxed when this is taking place, so i know that there isnt an itch or something irrating that he is trying to scratch etc. It also doesnt matter which side of his body he rubs, as he does it down the other side of his body aswel, its soooo funny to watch him!!

Im just wondering if anyone else has a dog that does this, im not worried about it at all.....im just curious as to why he does it. The wall paper isnt textured, but he doesnt do it anywhere else in the house.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Toni

Re: Pup rubbing on walls

There may be a smell in that part of the wall he finds irrisistable, sometimes my dogs will do this against people or places cats have been. I know this sounds gross, but maybe something(rodent) has died in the cavity, you may not be able to smell it but the dog may?

Hi,

Yeh, i think it is just one of his little habits.....he seems to be collecting many lol.

There definatley isnt any rodents in the wall, as he ribs himself all over along the walls, either side, including the studded wall which isnt that old.

Thanks for the replys - like i said, i was curious lol

Re: Pup rubbing on walls

When I was young I had a lab bitch who had a fondness for strong smelling perfume. She would rub against anyone who had strong perfume on but she would also do it if she could smell scented washing powder on your clothes.

Maybe he can smell something there and that is why he is rubbing there.

Re: Pup rubbing on walls

Red is a lab cross and he rubs his face in exactly the way you described on soft things like the sofa and the edge of the bed.
Gotta love em
