Re: just a post about a very dominent dog

I did offer some help, which was employ the 'NILIF' programme and really, really, socialise your dog. (using positive reinforcement for 'good' behaviour around other dogs)

However, because I chose to discount your theory that your dog behaves like this because he is dominant, you chose to disregard the advice.

If I had suggested you alpha roll your dog to show him who's boss, would that have been better?

Re: just a post about a very dominent dog

Hi Le, have you read a dogs mind, it says a lot of what you are saying and i agree with you on a lot you are saying, dogs will run in packs as i have seen many times in the north where i come from, i am not at all good on dog probs , but i have to agree with a lot you are saying after reading endless pages on the net about wolves as i love them, and also reading up about dogs the traits are much the same going back over generations, i would suggest you get some help though , my dogs bark at the door the postman and anyone else who comes in our garden not invited i think that natural they are just protecting there property which is one reason we feel safe, but the biting i would get some help with .

He's dominant over you because you are allowing him to be..

he never submits to me and he humps other male dogs and wont back down, he's been in quite a few scraps, he dosen't like other males in his territory and has bitten me and my dad alot of times when we have stopped him doing something he wants to do.
I've never known a dog to submit to their owners when they 'know' they are in charge. I think you need to have a serious rethink about they way his issues are tackled before someone or something else gets seriously hurt...

Re: just a post about a very dominent dog

Hi Le. i wanted to take one of my GSDS, as hes very over excitable but i cant afford it either, i did ring a few none would work with two dogs and one that would wanted £900 for six sessions i just dont run to that, so working with them myself very slow but getting there its hard when you have more than one dog , they are not biters have never growled at anyone just love people and i have aq job to stop them jumping when anyone comes as they are 8 stone and trying to hold them is hard but i dont want to shut them away as they come out just the same which prolongs the excitment, they also follow us everywhere indoors and we never go out without them , a mistake we made from the beginning , good luck just keep trying sure you will get there. Both my dogs have been to basic training and still hate other dogs, and both were socialised from 8 weeks old , no one is perfect you can only try your best, if hes biting when you dont want him to do something is there another way you can stop him without having to handle him maybe a toy or something like that to distract him .

Re: just a post about a very dominent dog

maybe you could benefit from watching some of the Dog Whisperer programmes on the t.v he deals with many different dogs with many different problems. You might learn a few techniques you could use with your dog

HandsOnPaws will become famous soon enough
Re: just a post about a very dominent dog

I strongly advise you dont try any of Cesar's methods on this dog (or any dog) Given that he has proven himself to have no bite inhibition, the most likely outcome will be serious injury to you and one sad confused dog
