Does anyone know about how to improve a dominant dogs behavior?
I was looking at a website that talks about dominance in dogs and i thought i would ask if anyone can tell me more about it. I have always heard that if your dog miss behaves you should make sure you show your dog that you are the Dominant species.. for example by rolling him on his back in an alpha dog roll. But this lady Dr Yin seems to have other ideas. What do you think??

Absolutely - dominance towards human beings is an outdated, primitive and potentially damaging theory!

Please please please- dominance is a VERY outdated and primitive theory- developed using flawed observations of wolves at a time when there was little/no behavioural research on canines! Our dogs are so much more complicated and developed than this. Suggesting anything otherwise is an injustice to our pets and as MerlinsMum quite rightly points out dominance methods are INCREDIBLY dangerous! Alpha rolling dogs! Potentially very dangerous, damaging and sure to worsen your relationship with your dog and their trust in you. ![]()

Agree with everyone else. Dominance is outdated now that more research has been done into why dogs do what they do.
This article explains even more - Help with training your deaf dog from Barry Eaton plus there is a link to a good book about it- Dominance: Facto Or Fiction - examining the relationship between dogs and usThere are of course still people making money out of advising on 'dominant' dogs but that does not mean that they are correct. It simply means that they are long overdue in updating their knowledge. ![]() |

I believe they are seriously considering banning his TV shows in Italy.

I think when push comes to shove and youve got a highly agressive animal in your house you should use any means necessary to get them into order positive or negative. If your (not you in particular) finding you have control issues with the dog then it should be rehomed sooner rather than later as you are unable to cope with it

Or you get bitten (or your kids do) and the dog gets PTS or rehomed. Or you get had up under the DDA and taken to court. No need to fanny about. In modern times that's the accepted way....if you can't or won't get a qualified professional in, then the consequences are on you. That's being truly responsible.
