Got a slight problem our ruby cav sometimes stops and sits down when on walks.
Dylan is a male and is only 11mths old.
This does not happen every walk but besides tuging him we return home on doing so, guess what he does not stop.

Anyone got an idea on what to do?

Murphy went through a phase of sitting and refusing to move but it seemed to stop as quickly as it started. I think with him it was just the initial novelty of being able to walk wore off .I just called him in a happy voice and said come on then said good boy when he started to walk .I'd suggest using a favourite toy or a treat and praising when he walks. Maybe walk somewhere differnt or make the walk more exciting?

Our JRT does this so that we will call him because when we call him he usually gets a treat

Does he seem enthusiastic for the walk when you start out?

I still get this on occasion with my cocker he's just turned a yr old. At first I thought there might have been something wrong with him, but all he's trying to do is dictate where we walk. I tend to just give him a little fuss and then ask him to come and we continue our walk, either that or just stand and wait for him to move.

Use your brain, not a choke chain.

Lure him along with a treat or a toy. I remember doing this in training classes with my first dog, just getting him to walk on the lead.

Bailey did this and sometimes it was in fear.
As above, try coax him with maybe his favourite toy, or yummy treats.

Tala has started doing this, generally in the same place on the walk too, she has now resorted to biting the lead too!! GRRR

If I just stand still and ignore her she bites the lead, so I shorten it, and she just stands there like, 'what you gonna do about it'

I'm loathed to use treats, because I dont want her to sit down and refuse to walk just because she wants a treat.... and given her intelligence level.... I think she's likely to try that one on!!

Maybe your dog lacks motivation. try to arouse his enthusiasm by giving him treats when he does what you say. or maybe your dog lacks exercise (play) and is too weak or too tired for walks. some dogs are really lazy though..
