Re: fear of lead

how old is she, a pup? try just putting a collar on her for a while with out a lead then after a few days clip the lead on and let her drag it around, watching her at all times obviously so she can get used to it

Re: fear of lead

Minnie has given some good advice.

Lots of pups get upset or scared or object when they first wear a collar and lead, so don't worry too much. try what Minnie says, but also try giving the pup treats while wearing the collar and lead, or playing a game to distract her from it while she is wearing it. Good luck.

Re: fear of lead

Try leaving out the lead so that your dog can investigate it in its own time , its wierd some of the things that frighten a dog for no reason , but not forcing the lead on him would mean he goes to investigate when he is ready . ignore him as much as possible if he acts up whe you try and put it on try short periods of time with the collar on and praise good behaviour and response and ignor the behaviour you dont want , slowly add the lead to the equasion again for short periods of time and reward . it will come eventually . B/C can be quite highly strung and are very intelligent so let him be nosy and he will soon get it .

Re: fear of lead

i think as with most dogs he will get used to it eventualy

i can remeber my first pup didn like the lead much ether and would
go nuts if you went near him with it lol

we eventualy use it as part of play then gradualy got him used to it
we would put it on the floor and wiggle it like a snake and put a toy on the end of it

he would chase it and then shortly after it he didnt mind it as he thought it was a toy lol

but it worked a treat

but loads of good suggestions above
just try difrent things till you get a good response
you just need to make the lead look not so scary to him
and when you get a positive reaction use that as your tool to train him into wearing it

plenty treats and praise are always needed also

hope all goes well

thanks
pugz

Re: fear of lead

My female dog, Zara came from the rescue centre with a morbid fear of her lead; who knows why and who did what to her ?? She would shiver and quake at it.

Like angie and pugster suggested, we made games with her lead... left it laying around the house, and slowly ( a week or two) she came to at least not fear the sight of it. That accomplished we'd put the lead on & make that part of the game and take it off again... and give her a treat.

Within a month she had no fear of the lead, indeed when she sees it she knows she's in for a walk or some socialising and bounces up and down with sheer pleasure.

I hope it's soon like that for you and your dog.
