Is this puppy play

Molly is now 8 weeks old and doing fine up to a couple of days ago she would sit when i put her food down, but now when I go to put her food down she backs away barking at me till I put it down. should I keep it back till she settles or will this make it worse .I have read the thread today on puppy biting what a help it was.

Re: Is this puppy play

With my two I would put the food down only when they were sat and quiet. I would lower it down gently if they moved or started make noise I would lift it back up and not look at them. They learnt in the end that they weren't getting any food until they were being sensible.

Re: Is this puppy play

We tried to get Rohan our lab puppy to wait for his food and he was a maniac desperate to get to it ( well he is a lab!).

It was a shambles for a bit with me trying to make him leave and trying to get the bowl off him if he didn't.

I then had an obvious but light bulb moment for me, rather than teaching him to wait, leave etc around his food. He had picked up sit and stay briliiantly so I get him to sit and stay at one end of the room while I put his food out then say take it.
I know your pup is only 8 weeks but I would say just focus on the most basic commands and use them in as many situations as possible.
Plus as the other poster said as soon as they worl out that behaving gets them the food quicker they soon wise up!.
