Re: husky training

my husky girl is 10 months now and used to pull on a normal collar. She is a working husky and works in harness pulling me on a scooter, I have taught her to pull in harness and walk to heel when wearing a collar.

when we're walking her with a collar we use a half check, it is fitted at the top of the neck, behind the ears this is an important point to remember, as when the collar is at the bottom of the neck its not as effective. It is also fitted so that when it is pulled tight the 2 metal rings do not touch this is important for safety and training, having it fitted this way means that even of she pulls and shakes her head she cant get out of the collar. When we're getting ready for walks I fill my pocket with a few treats and let her know I have them, so she is a bit more interested in me, then when she pulls i show her the treat and she starts to follow my hand, when she is in the proper position i say 'heel' and then wait a few seconds and then treat her. I'm not gradually extending the time before she gets the treat, so eventually i will faze them out.

Oh i also taught the heel postition at home 1st, in about 10 minutes lol

when i trained her in harness i used a car harness, as i wanted one i could use for that aswell, also the racing harnesses (x-back) are quite easy to back out of unless you decide to get a belly strap to add to it.
i started of at a walk and then started to jog and then run, while she was running i would say the command 'hike on', i also let her run ahead. when she was running i let her pull me so she associated the harness with pulling

hope this helps
