Its doing my head in.

I took Roo out to go toilet at 3.15pm. Just went in the kitchen and he's done a wee.

I want to give up

Re: Its doing my head in.

Try taking him out more often.
I know it's a pain, especially now its cold n dark, but if you don't give him the oppurtunity to have an accident, he won't. Take him back to basics and do it as you would a new puppy.
Hope you get it sorted.

But I have done. Since Tuesday he's gone out at regular intervals. The reason I want to give up is because he did pee outside at 3.15pm, but he's just peed inside an hour later. When I open the door and go out with him I get him to bark in the hope he will think if he barks someone will open the door, but he just doesn't seem to understand he isn't meant to go toilet inside. He gets a treat every time he goes outside and big fuss, he doesn't get anything whatsoever if he goes inside, yet its still happening.

Back to the vets I guess in case they can find anything. Problem is he gets all upset at the vets so it might make him worse He's meant to be in kennels tomorrow but that's going to go out the window as I expect they will have to sedate him again to calm him down. Its like he's doing it when he gets upset almost. Shut him up for bed last night as I had to go out, and he had peed and dragged his bed in it. I think he peed inside just now when I went to feed the rabbits

Thank god someone else is the same, I could kiss you!!

Spoken to a doggy friend and she said her dog was fine with her food but suddenly started to go toilet inside and after a couple months found out she had a problem with the food, swapped food and she was fine. Going to change Roo's food anyway but this makes me even more sure to do so.

I hope its just a phase, I just don't know how to communicate with him that he isn't allowed to go toilet inside, like its a bad thing and he should go outside. Hopefully time will help, hope your collie improves too!
xx

Re: Its doing my head in.

my border collie cross wasn't really house trained for about a year! And even after that, we'd still have the occasional mess through the night.

I just hoped that in time his bladder could hold more !!

He's about 20 months now and perfect.

You're probably best going back to basics. Take him out every 1/2 hr iff possible, and treat him when he's done his stuff outside.

Re: Its doing my head in.

I hope this makes you feel a little better, my 2 poodles are 2 years old and i've come down this morning to find they have both pooped on the kitchen floor. I wonder why they do this sometimes because they know better. So your not alone.

Re: Its doing my head in.

Have you tested for a urine infection?
He doesn't have to go to the vet, just collect a sample and pop it in for testing

Re: Its doing my head in.

Thanks guys.

He went to the vets this morning complete with pee sample. Its going off for testing, when she put a dipstick in it she said there was more protein than normal but not really anything to worry about now so she would send it off.

Got to measure how much he is drinking but she said it sounds like separation anxiety or a behavioural issue providing his pee sample is OK.

He was a bit iffy with being left alone when he was little but we got through it OK and he got used to it, so hopefully if its that its just a little blip we can overcome again.

Last time he went to the vets he was all uptight and he was a bit better today but still wouldn't let the vet go anywhere except his face, lol!

She said he is a tad overweight but funnily enough I've lowered his food intake and between the last vet visit (3 weeks), he has put on 1.5kgs, so I don't know if that has much to do with it.

Going back on Friday to see his favourite vet so hopefully he will behave himself a little more then.

Thanks again everyone
