I know its only been one day but...

Hi Guys,
Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice last night on puppy food.
My boyfriend and i picked up our puppy Cooper today and he was so good all the 2 hour journey home. He slept and cuddled up to his blanket.
We are trying to get him to learn to use the training pads until he's had all his jabs and then he'll hopefully go outside.
I know its only been one afternoon so far but we're not having much luck with the training pads so far! Can anyone help please?
When we got home we were playing and he did a quick wee on the carpet, i know its his first day and he's only 7 weeks old so i quickly put him on his training pad and cleaned up the carpet (without him seeing).
We gave him his food a little later and quite soon after he started to poo not far from where he did a wee, and my boyfriend quickly lifted him and managed to get him half on the pad half off!
He's done about 5 wees this afternoon and we keep missing them because they're so quick and we havent got him on the pad any of these times. Just quickly afterwards but he just looks at us and walks off.
He is VERY cute and is getting away with it but i jst feel we're going to constantly be watching him incase he's messing the carpet!
Any help would be great!
Thanks
Hannah

We do but we live by the water and the geese and ducks get in to our garden and a few neighbours have cats that come into the garden and im just worried about letting him outside without jabs.

Ok basically the idea with a new babe is that on waking, after feeding put them outside to pee and poo have you got a kitchen with a vinyl floor that you could put the training pads on and then put him out there to do his business before he ruins your carpet!!

Talking Re: I know its only been one day but...

what puppy have you got?

i have a 10 week old rotty pup, who we tried to toilet train on pads, as we are the same as you didnt want her going outside un jabbed. it was a nightmare and costly too.

we decided to stick to the paper until she had her first vaccination and started to toilet her in our garden.

we take her out when she wakes up, after eating, after playing, etc and every 30 minutes or so so she can toilet outside!

she is learning very quickly and only after a week of her toileting outside, she knows to go to the kitchen door and scratches at it when she needs to go out. but we still take her out as said above as well. you just need to be consistent with your new pup and he will get the hang of toilet training as long as you help him.

you can also use simply solution puppy toileting spray to help you toilet train him, you spray the spot you want him to pee on and he will then smell it and go to the toilet. you then praise him and reward with an treat. you could use a very small piece of cheese. we used cheese for when vegas went to the toilet outside only, no other time and you can do this too.

He's a King Charles Cavalier.
Thanks for the ideas. The simple solution spray might be a good idea.
I think we just have to keep putting him on the pads and praising him when he gets it right!
Sorry if this sounds gross, but roughly how often do puppies need to poo?
I have a puppy book and it says they can wee 8-10 times a day.

Thanks,
Hannah

Normally after a meal how many times a day are you feeding him and as for the wees they only have a small bladder so it will depend on their fluid intake

Re: I know its only been one day but...

Well in the puppy book i have it suggested to feed him little meals 4 times a day but when we picked up the puppy they have been feeding him only twice a day so i dont really no if i should start doing 4 times or stick with their plan of twice a day.
