Re: Help With Leaving My Dogs On Thier Own...

The plug in D.A.P pheromone diffuser for dogs helps stop or prevent fear and stress related signs in puppies and adult dogs such as destruction, vocalisation, house soiling fear of fireworks and excessive licking.
(Contains D.A.P Diffuser and bottle of pheromone. Last approximately four weeks and covers an area of 50 to 70 square metres).

The above was copied from their site.

I would advice this also. It may mean going back to basics- but they will get it eventually.
I would also agree withwhat sallyanne said about leaving them with kongs, chews etc...
Best of luck- im sure it won't take long to sort the barking problem out.

Re: Help With Leaving My Dogs On Thier Own...

Our old lab x had separation anxiety when we first got him. He had spent 6 months in quarantine as a 2/3 year old and had been holed up in a flat for the 5 months previous to us getting him. He was 6 when he arrived..

We started with ignoring him before we left and when we came back, starting the time we were out of the house at 15 mins, then increasing.. We got to a max of 5 hours, which is just about normal for most dogs, after a few years!! TV was always on quite loud and he was never locked up as he liked to know when you left and not that he was being locked up for being bad. Then again, he didn't like being locked up due to his enforced quarantine

When possible, I would ask friends/neighbours to pop in just to spend time with him. They didn't even have to interact with him. It just calmed his rising panic. He was also hyperactive, so we got a dog walker for the days we were going to be out all day. To tell the truth, she could have taken the easy route and just sat down and watched TV with him as it wasn't the exercise he craved (he gets a run at the stables at night) it was the human contact.

Good look with them. Stop stressing out as they will pick up on it and think something's up every time you leave
