Thanks for extra advice. Been trying the "walk the opposite way" and a new one, but I need a wall for it! Been to 3 puppy classes so far and it is really good. Puppies only from 5 to 9 months - its been wonderful to be able to socialize Archie. Got some great tips and it does seem to be making a difference (if VERY slowly!!)

Re: Excited puppy!

It sounds like you are making good progress.

Even today I had to change direction (backwards) because he was pulling.

Although it does work for us, every now and again he too gets giddy and forgets the rules.

Stick with it don't give in and you'll be fine.

Sue

Just a little update! Now 7 weeks into training and it's going really well!

Archies now 7 months old and because of heel/close work, when I stop because he's pulling, he's started doing the "circle" walk to get next to me. Not all the time though but we're getting there!

Also a good tip they gave me because he often takes no notice of me on walks, is just to stand there quietly (no matter how long it takes) and as soon as he looks at me (usually after about 5 minutes!) really praise and give treat.

Slowly but surely!
