Hi everyone! I picked up my new jtr x parsons yesterday (
) and he's lovely but my two other dogs were rescue so we've never had to deal with so much chewing before! He's getting to know his name and 'leave it' as well but when he wants something he's really dertimined! I was just wondering really if anyone had any tips on chewing? And if cardboard is ok to give him? I gave it to my greyhound when he suddenly wanted to chew and he was fine with it but Pip is so small I don't want him to choke! So any ideas how I can keep him away from my laptop cable (eek!) and interested in something else? Any tips would be very much appreciated =D I'm going to check a couple of puppy sites now as well, see what I can find =) Ta Catharine x

Re: My new puppy chews everything!
Thanks =D I did wonder... I was also wondering about crate training and leaving him alone, as i said we've only had rescues recently so leaving them unattended has never been a problem but now... wires, plug sockets, my brothers lego...
it's a minefield of danger lol though to be honest a crate isn't really convenient, there's a kitchen waiting to be fitted and space is short atm (and we have three dogs -shakes head- mental) lol So anyone have an alternative? If there isn't then I'll get a second had crate but I'm eager to avoid it if poss. Ta peeps, tis so helpful having hundreds of dog owners to ask for help =) x

Re: My new puppy chews everything!
with the chewing problem i would smoother things in washing liquid (not the citrus/lemon one)
this gives them a bad taste to chew and deters them from it (especially with the cabels)

Re: My new puppy chews everything!
You can also buy bitter apple spray to spray on pretty much anything which deters chewing.
It's the third anti-chew spray I've tried with my pup and the only one that has worked! |

Re: My new puppy chews everything!
the only thing with using food tasting things is that if your dog is a big chewer then they can become immune to the taste and actually begin to enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies =D and, lol, apple sprays and pepper, puppies are so much trouble!! I just know that he's sleeping now, dreaming, scheming and plotting about ways to steal food and how best to reach the shoes...! lol ta again, I will try them all (and perhaps chop and change so he doesn't become 'immune')!
