Hi Carol,

That's a shame your dog has been bitten in the past and can understand that this may make him fearful of new dogs he meets.

However I don't think that stopping him from socialising with other dogs will help the situation and may even make him aggressive in the long run.

Perhaps a way to re-introduce him to new dogs would be to join a club, maybe not training classes but agility or something fun like that. This way he is meeting new dogs in a controlled but fun environment.

Thanks for your reply i will look for a suitable behaviourist or agility class once i know he can be trusted abit more, he needs to understand that not all dogs are agressive also we need to relax when he starts to perform when he sees a dog. I desperatley hope we can find the right person to help us achieve a happy relaxed dog around other dogs. carol v

Hi Carol, go down to your local dog walks (without your dog) and ask around other dog owners to see if you can find a suitable trainer.
You really need someone who will do some back up work with you, so look for this, your dog needs to be introduced to dogs in a safe environment, where no dog is going to get hurt.

Some behaviourist do help you to resocialise your dog, however others will charge you a lot of money just to tell you your dog needs socialising, but you already know that.

Some dog trainers would also be able to help you, but others would not, again look for someone with experience in dealing with behavioural problems.
