Help my 6 year old boxer started pulling up carpet
I'm looking for advice, as the title states my 6 year old boxer has started pulling up my landing carpet whilst me and my partner are at work. Whilst we are out we lock the bedroom doors and living room door, in order to keep her from furniture and beds. The dog has the run of the landing, (where her beds are kept) stairs and kitchen.
She digs at the carpet in an effort to get into our bedroom, (she sleeps in this room, on her own beds at night, but during day the beds are put onto landing) This has only happened 4 days ago, but she has done it every morning since, (one of us come home at dinnertime to let her out etc) we moved house last may, to our current house, and she quickly worked out how to move the door handles down, having a preference for the main bedroom, I changed the handles about six months ago to prevent her getting into the room, this worked but she's gradually scratched the door, now I suspect that she believes by digging up the carpet near the door she will get in the room. Is there any ways of stopping this behaviour. She does this whilst we are out. My wife is also in the early stages of pregnancy, I've heard some dogs do strange things when owners are pregnant. |

Re: Help my 6 year old boxer started pulling up carpet
They're toppers them two, we had a cage for her as a pup until about 1 and half.
She's been no bother until we moved to the house we're in now, last may. In june she had a big op to remove a tumor from her mouth and had round the clock company for about 8 weeks, (drafted my mother in as dogsitter for during the day) she started trying to get into the living room as soon as she was being left alond during the day, then moved her attentions onto the main bedroom. She's been fine for a while, but this week has started with the carpet pulling. |

Re: Help my 6 year old boxer started pulling up carpet
i leave my boy in his crate for only 3 hours at a time whilst at work in the morning. I know he kicks off as i can hear him when i leave, but when i come back he is usually quiet and i take reassurance from a night of peace and quiet, that he only shouts for attention for a little while till he knows that i wont be back immediately!!!
As for crating your boxer, i was a little concerned about 'a cage' at first, but we had no real option as we live in a rented property....if you decide to do it, take your time intoroducing it, feed him in it, entice him with treats and his fav toys so its not as stressful when you leave him in it. He will get used to it. It will also be a useful tool for hime to escape your forthcoming family addition in the future !!! |

Re: Help my 6 year old boxer started pulling up carpet
oh and while it is not my place to dictate where your boxer sleeps...he may be feeling a little confused by being allowed in the bedroom to sleep at night but not being allowed in during the day....another good reason for giving him some consistent space of his own...when he has got used to the crate when you are out, you might decide it is a good idea to crate him at night....especially when baby comes!!

Re: Help my 6 year old boxer started pulling up carpet
Again, I would recommend a crate, but also a DAP's diffuser could help, since the move could have unsettled him - hence his current behaviour.
The DAP Diffuser works like a plug in air freshener, continuously releasing the odourless natural pheromone into the dogs environment, helping to make it feel safe and calm. It is a natural solution, so there is no sedative effect and the dogs ability to interact and play is maintained.
