You missed my point completely...

The size and strength of the animal is not the point, my point is that training methods based on punishment are not necessary. The animal doesn't actually learn what it is you want him to do, the animal just learns to avoid punishment.

Why do you think you need to be dominant with your dog? In a pack of wolves the leader is not dominant in a forceful way. There is harmony and co-operation in the pack, aggression and dominance is not tolerated.

In fact in a pack of wolves it is only the middle ranking wolves that squabble, if the leader started to squabble or be forceful, he would be seen as weak and lower ranking.

Where do you get the idea that it takes months to teach nice walking on a leash. With focused consistent training, with several session each day, it takes approximately 1 week!

None of my dogs have ever needed a tap/light smack whatever or kicked in the side or dominated. I taught them to walk without pulling by stopping dead everytime they pulled and not walking again until they were calm. It took all of 5 days even for my ridiculously stubborn terrier mix. My friend has owned big, dominant dogs her whole life mastiffs, akitas, gsds etc she's never needed any of those methods either.
