Dogs forget stuff. Hell, people forget stuff - how much of your school algebra can you remember, unless you happen to use it in your work?

And I agree totally about trying to replace treats with play - although ultimately you have to use what turns your dog on most, you can nudge them in the right direction... my young dog isn't particularly food obsessed so training sessions have to be when she's hungry. My older dog however is a total gannet - I wish I'd had her from a pup really.

I met a bloke out walking today with a Lab - he could see me practising D.C with my girl but still let his Lab galumph over Anyway, he was telling me how untrainable the Lab was, while it jumped up and climbed over me to try to get to the treats in my pocket... I told him to go and buy a clicker and bet him that if he did it right, it would learn all sorts of things within days

Hehe, those great big galumphing Labs eh, I've got a couple of those Mind you, I'd make a point of avoiding someone if I could see they were training, unless it was someone I knew, and then I'd purposefully go over and be a 'distraction'

JennieJet, another thing to be aware of is that dogs learn in context to their surroundings, so if you only teach your pup things in one place, then it will associate the commands with that place, and might not necessarily cotton on that the command means every time you ask her to do something in any place.

A young pup needs to be on four meals spread throughout the day, its like a baby, you wouldn't only feed a baby twice a day, unfortunately you just have to accept that toilet training takes time. Cutting her down to two meals a day will leave her feeling too hungry, she needs those regular feeds to aid development, and I can't understand why the breeder would recommend swaping to two meals to be honest.

Agree about the food thing.

Just as an aside (although I don't think it's been suggested on this thread) it's not fair to take away water before bed and/or overnight either - the whole point of toilet training is for the dog to learn that indoors is not a toilet, even if it needs to go - not for it to not need to go so much.
