Smile My Labrodor is acting Hyperactive

My Labrodor has been acting a bit to Wierd since the past week. its
become too active (or should i say hyperactive). Its not like him to
behave this way. Its quite traied (not professionally i should say) but
it was not into Jumping and bumping into things since it turned near one
and a half. Now its nearly 5 and its too wierd to see it active.

At first i thought that it could be something to do with the neighbour
or may be it had seen something which made it jump around (it always
does that while it sees a cat or something) but this has been going on
for a week and thats totally getting me a bit Hyper too.

A friend of mine told me that his dog (german shepherd) had the same
problem and it turned out to be the Cushing's Disease or something. I
learned a bit on it and it turns out to be having the same symptoms.
Should i see a vet or go with the same prescriptions my friend has been
using...

He has been using some Supraglan and later a variation of the same which
is not available any more so am said. Is this medication safe without a
vet's recommendation or Should i go and see a vet for something like this.

Hope to hear from you guys. Thanks a million in advance.

"It"?

You need to see a vet. Its dangerous to self medicate your own animal, when it may not even have anything wrong with it except a behavioural issue.

How much exercise does he/she get?

re: My Labrodor is acting Hyperactive

Firstly, I think this is in the wrong section..

Secondly, NEVER self medicate your dog, Cushings is only diagnosed after numerous tests by a qualified vet.

Hyperactivety could be anything, including food related.

re: My Labrodor is acting Hyperactive

Hello,

I would book an appointment to see your vet. Please don't give your dog the medicine your friend is using. Let the vet make that decision.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on

dont meant to be rude or nasty.. but why do you call your dog 'it'

i suggest taking your dog to the vet, my lab is very active and giddy all the time but i put this down to his age as he is only 2.

Question re: My Labrodor is acting Hyperactive

Dear Nonnie,

You are right its dangerous to self medicate..

I will consult a vet..

But vet will prescribe my Lab by drug, medication, or chemical?

what The problem is, a living body doesn't respond kindly to foreign substances. It fights back by bringing its immune system forces to bear and trying to "kick out" the foreign substance. This warfare stresses your dog's immune system at the very time it is needed at full strength to fight the actual illness.

re: My Labrodor is acting Hyperactive

Funnily enough my Dad's westie has cushings, but she has very different symptoms. She is about 8 and has had numerous blood tests etc which have determined cushings, and she is on some sort of steroids.

Her symptoms were actually pretty much opposite, she was lethargic, constantly demanding food, had a pot belly (was obese when they got her) and she went from 36lbs to 28lbs but the belly still wasn't shifting, constant need to drink etc. There are many reasons your dog could have these issues, vet is the way forward
