Hi, we have a one year old patterdale terrier who we have had since he was a puppy, very recently my little brother leaned over him when he was on the sofa and murphy (the dog!!) growled at him very, very viciously! we thought it was perhaps because he is the youngest in the family, however when i walked over to the sofa murphy did it to me too!! i have trained murphy and always made sure he knows who is boss due to a terriers nature and need to know the pecking order of the household....(although being on the sofa is NOT something i agree with!) this behaviour is worrying as it will ruin a very good dog i just dont understand why this has suddenly come on!!

I would advice a visit to the vets as your first step. Sometimes when a normally placid dog suddenly shows aggresvie behaviour it can be a sign of illness
Good luck with him - if he isnt ill then perhaps you could start going to some training classes where they can observe you and the dog and try to help with the problem
