At breaking point!

I know that biting/nipping/mouthing is normal for a puppy but i have just about had it today with fletcher. he's 6month lab and i feel things should be improving by now. i thought they were, most of the time he is usually fine. but this weekend has been a nightmare. i usually put his biting down to teething but it seems like down right bad behaviour this weekend. i have tried yelping, distracting him, saying no. i know its my fault and not his but he has plenty of chews and bones and toys. we have just had a near enough battle with him going mad. his bites are really sore on my arms and legs. i think i need a miracle.

Re: At breaking point!

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time, it sounds like things really got on top of you this weekend.
I'm sorry I can't offer much advice.
Just keep working at it, consistancy is the key.
C4L posted this link on another thread you might find useful The Bite Stops Here
Are you in touch with a local puppy school?
Best of luck - but puppies are definately worse than kids

Re: At breaking point!

yes he's got his puppy certificate believe it or not and going on to his bronze. i dont feel anythin we do in class helps to deal with his biting. i think it is a mixture of his teeth, being tired and me not being strong enough. also had a weekend being just the 2 of us as OH is away so maybe that putting strain on us can just get very frustrating at times as he can be a good boy too will just have to keep at it. thanks for support

Re: At breaking point!

I know what you mean, it's hard when you are on your own.
Puppy classes are great for obedience, but can sometimes be lacking when it comes to day to day stuff. How approachable is your trainer, can he or she offer any support advice outside of the classroom?

I know it's hard and don't mean to sound patronizing, but it's important to say that was yesterday and today is a new day

Re: At breaking point!

I think I must have one of the oddest puppies ever lol, my Lab never ever bit me when he was teething, he has never ever play bitten either, though when he does go mad outside he likes to jump up and have a nip, especially when we're all out in the garden, but there's not much more I can say, apart from what Fleur said, that consistancy is the key. We are getting there with my lab, he's not so nippy anymore.
Good luck =]

Aww don't worry about having a moan.
My previous dog, who I got at 6 months old who was given to my family, was abused in the first few months by his previous owner and he never came out of the puppy stage of biting and nipping, I can tell you my hands got very sore. It's just a case of some puppies take a little longer to learn than others as each puppy is different.
