Re: Chewing Bed!
He's not chewing his bed because he's hungry.
He could be teething or bored or just like chewing his bed. My Zipper has destroyed every soft bed he has had, he loves finding a weak spot on the seam and then pulling out all the stuffing. He has even chewed a hole through the middle of some vet bed I'd bought. Now the only bedding he has in his crate is a couple of cheap fleece blankets, for some reason he doesn't chew them and the bonus with them is they are quick and easy to wash and dry. |

Fleur, I think we are sharing the same dog ![]() Despite my dog having plenty of physical exercise, oodles of mental stimulation (I'm training her for Competitive Obedience and also love teaching her tricks so we are always working on something with the clicker), me being home all day and her mum for company when I do go out, she chews for England and always has. She has eaten many beds (always starts with the zip and like yours, just has cheapie blankets from Tesco now which she doesn't chew. Expensive taste, clearly) and actually ate huge holes in the walls of the dog room at her chewiest. Things I did: Fill kongs/hollow bones with her dinner and freeze them. Smear some peanut butter in same (they'll spend HOURS trying to lick a dab of peanut butter out of a hollow bone) Plenty of bones and chewies - I know that some people don't like rawhide chews because of the risk of choking, but TBH I figured that the small risk of choking was outweighed by the somewhat larger risk of my OH murdering her if she kept eating the walls... that said I never leave her unattended with a rawhide chew and remove them when they get too small. Plenty of exercise, physical and mental, so they're too tired to want to chew much. Smear Vick's Vaporub on anything (chair legs etc) you don't want chewed. I am currently at the stage of wondering whether to risk buying another "nice" bed for my dogs.... I might go for one of the supposedly "chew proof" ones and smear loads of Vick round the seams, just in case... |

Hi, at 5 months he is still very much a baby, and like at 5 weeks he is still developing and changing he is no where near adulthood yet so be prepared for his behaviour changing, so what you did in terms of excercise, feeding, type of food last week may not be the right thing for him this week, and thats how puppies are, ask for him not chewing the bed because if he did he would have nothing to lie on dogs do not think in that way, just like if they eat something that upsets them they would not avoid it in future they donot unfortunatly make those sorts of connections.Try walking him/tiring him out a little later in the evening so he may sleep longer and not lay awake getting bored so chewing the bed, look at the type of food you are feeding maybe its now making him a bit hyper/restless also he may be scavaging as there is something lacking in the nourishment he is getting its not always the ammount you feed its the quality and content of the food. |

Re: Chewing Bed!
Thanks for your replies.
Razor is walked later in the evening, or if I can't walk him, I tire him out in the garden. We are going to gradually change his food, as he's obviously not getting what he needs on what he's on now, hence why he's still after food during the day etc. ![]() Also during the day, he still sleeps alot, how can I stop this? I don't suppose there is any way, he seems to come to life on an evening, and sleepy during the day, lol! Last edited by Gsd_mad; 27-05-2009 at 07:47 PM.. |
