Whining Puppy

Hi all i need some help please!!!
I have just had a jack russell pup 3 weeks ago, He is adorable and as already started to master toilet training.
He does his mess on paper by the back door now. How do i get him now to go outside and do it???
He also sleeps in a large crate at night and he whined for a couple of nights but no longer does now.
BUT he wakes me up whining around 5.30/6am in the morning whining constantly, i have to put paper in his crate still and he is still relieving himself in the crate , so when he whines i clear up his mess and put him back in and go back to bed, but he still continues to whinge lol.
Can anyone tell me how to stop this???

Re: Whining Puppy

Dogs don't like to mess where they sleep, this could be one reason why he cries.

do yo uleave him with anything in the crate - toys etc? Possibly leave ta radio on for comfort.

He will still wake you early as he will want to go to the toilet until his bladder gets stronger.

how old is he?

Re: Whining Puppy

Hi there thanks for your reply.
Yeah he has toys and he goes in his crate without persuasion at night, and we don't hear a peep out of him untill about 5.30,he is 11 weeks old on thursday and he seems as tho he's going to be a clever dog, he mastered his toilet training quite quickly but i need to get him to go outside and do it now.
I clean the mess up in his crate as soon as i hear him whinging.. but he wont settle back down afterwards x

Re: Whining Puppy

imo putting newspaper in the crate is the worse thing you could have done.!
As it teaches your pup that its alright to toilet in its crate..witch its not and he wont like.
Every time your dog wees/poos i would put him straight into the garden this way he might start to realise that the garden is for his toileting..
What the last time he gets let out for a wee at night??

Re: Whining Puppy

I had this with both my 2 when i first brough them home .... don't worry it doesn't last forever lol

Make sure you take him out after each meal, after he's woke up and after play. DOn't praise him if he toilets in the house just clean it up but give lots of praise and fuss when he goes outside, he'll soon learn that it's better to go outside

Re: Whining Puppy

By paper training, you are ultimately having to toilet train your puppy twice.
In order to encourage your puppy to toilet outside, you could adopt the 20 minute rule. This means putting him out in the garden every 20 minutes or so, as well as straight after feeding, upon waking up, and after play. Make sure you stand outside with him and encourage him to go, and praise him when he does. He needs to understand and learn that outside is that place to go.

As for the whining, he obviously needs to go to the toilet. I used to get up at about 2am to let mine out for a wee, and then again at about 6am, Oscar never messed in the house, Alfie only did on a handful of occassions. He may be finding it distressing to eliminate in his crate, but at his age, he has no choice.
Personally, id get up early and let him outside to go. He obviously needs to, and by whining he is letting you know. You need to realise this sign and act upon it.
