Re: When does my dog stop biting?

Thanks for that info mate. Much appreciated. Thanks to all of you too who have replied. The lessons go on! lol.

He had his second bath today, and he wasn't too impressed as you can tell by this picture...

He was very good though standing there letting us bath him. No biting. Mind you, I suppose we was dominating him then!

Re: When does my dog stop biting?

Definately agree with the "time out" or withdrawal of attention method.

As said already Biting = no play no biting = lots of play

Just make sure you interact when the dog is being calm and good (ok so that may not be very often ) Lots of people forget to re inforce good behaviour and just focus attention on the negative.

You could also end up with a dog who does not respect humans which could cause problems down the line.

As I have only had problematic rescue dogs, I always look at worst case senarios, so don't let me frighten you.

With regards to time out, it should only last few minutes, after this the dog does not know what it has done so it is not worthwhile. If you find that the techniques you have been using or advised on do not work, you will have to look at harsher methods. These could include imitating a bite, which is what they do to each other (except it is the real thing!) Or forcibly putting the dog in a submissive position, with you taking the alpha role. However you are best to try the softer approach first.

Good luck x
With your talk of biting the dog back and alpha rolls, you are clearly a Cesar lover

With luck, the OP will ignore posts such as yours and instead read articles such as this The Bite Stops Here

which works.

I can;t even be bothered to reply to your antognistic post.

Except to say to the op, there are different ways of doing things and what works for one dog does not work for another. Hopefully, by getting different responses, it gives you options. Best of luck x

Yes, OP - best of luck. I hope you will make the right choice and pick a method which will not, at best, cause irreparable harm to the bond you have with your dog and at worst, cause him to become properly aggressive as opposed to play biting.
