Keeping a pup company

Hey

This possibly sounds silly but my 8mth Beagle pup really doesn't like being left on her own during the day. (shes perfect at night when we put her in her crate) but I was wondering is shes missing a play play mate. We got her from a breeder who has around 30 other Beagles. We had thought about getting another dog (poss different breed), thats older to keep her company and help keep her in tow!!!!
Does this sound silly??

Re: Keeping a pup company

No it doesnt sound silly at all if you think dogs are pack animals and although some live perfectly happy on their own they are not meant really to be on their own. You could maybe ask the baegle breeder as we didnt know till last year when we spoke to a springer breeder and she said that springers dont do particularly well on their own or do better 2 or more maybe thats the same with beagles.

I can sit and watch my 2 interact for ages obviously have their own way of doing it and it intrigues me to be honest so when a dog is on its own it doesnt get that.

Ye i know what you mean, but do you think your springer wouldnt like it if he was a lone dog all of the time because i understood the breeder when she said they dont do well living with no other dogs at all they are very sociable.

Re: Keeping a pup company

I think it's a great idea to get another dog to keep your one company. Just be careful, what dog you choose x

Re: Keeping a pup company

Beagles have been bred for a very long time to be pack dogs, and I think they suffer more than some other breeds when left on their own.
As long as you get the right dog, I think it's a very good idea

Thanks for all your responses. Just wondering, what breed would be an ideal breed as a companion?
