Re: How to do you intro your dog's

Sorry no advice just wanted to say WAAAAAAAY HEEEEEEEY because i know you are excited about her. When are you going to get her?

Are you putting her in anything when you bring her home?

If you are just maybe bring that into the house and let the dogs have a good sniff of you first then let them sniff the carrier. If puppys happy in the crate i would leave it like that for a while and just behave like normal, then maybe let the pup have one room without the other dogs to settle and then bring them in individually to see her on their leads with her free in the room but leave the crate door open so she can peg it in there if she isn't sure.

But that's just what i would do instinctively no idea if it's right.

Re: How to do you intro your dog's

I took Indie with me to pick up Tau, they'd already met a couple of times by then; and Indie and Tau have met any rescue's I've taken in, on neutral ground before they came home. They're both fairly easy going in any case.

Usually its giving somewhere for the older dogs to escape a pup that's paramount, they little beggars just never seem to run out of energy!! And with a working cocker you'll have some fun I had the crate set up for Tau when she was a pup, and used to pop her in there when things got a bit out of hand, Indie would get a break for ten or 15 mins before the little devil was released again - Tau was a rather active pup, she used to treat the living room like her own personal wall of death, how she ever came out with 0/0 hips and elbows I will never know! A baby gate might be useful if you haven't already got one, to give a bit of separation space if/when required?

Yeah, I've heard that neutral ground is the best place to introduce dogs as sometimes dogs that you already own can be a bit dominant about their house if you introduce them there. Only have one dog myself though at the moment, so I dunno how true this is!

Hi when we got molly last september she was 8 weeks and by the time we brought her home she and harvey had been introduced several times, we used to take him to the breeders to meet her every week as we first saw her at 3 weeks old, we also took a blanket to her really to help her settle when she came to us the mother and litter mates smell was on it, for the 5 weeks before her coming to us i used to take harvey up bring the blanket home leave another one with her the one we brought home with her scent on we laid by harveys bed at night before i was washed it the next day and kept alternating the blankets when we went back to see her.

When she came at 8 weeks we took harvey to fetch her, came in the house put her down praised harvey as he went sniffing her and we had no problems at all, to harvey it was like bringing an old friend home he knew her so well by this time.
