buster puppy class update.

well we went to puppy class again yesterday! he still doesnt like the other puppy's at the class, they were all smaller than him and they all came up and had a sniff all he does is lay on the floor barking at them, he is fine during the practice bit, it is just when they mix them up to let them socialize he doesnt seem to like it. there is one dog there that is bigger than him she is a rhodesian ridgeback but she is very shy and he is fine with her they will have a sniff together and there is no barking.

when i was walking him yesterday we see this gorgous red setter and because he is a puppy they stopped and had a chat and he was absolutley fine with the other dog. plus there are some adult dogs at the class the class leaders pets and he is fine with all of them. its just smaller dogs than him that are very bouncy(if you know what i mean) that he is funny with. the bloke that runs it said he is going to get the water out if he keeps on barking at the other dogs. so any ideas would be great.

Re: buster puppy class update.

ok erm. heres a few possiblilites. Obviosuly because he is a pup its harder to understand what he is trying to say, but even as pups dogs always let the boss know hes the boss, but as he is a pup i can't see it as being aggression. while i was studing animal behaviour at college we were told that it it usely because the pup is nervous, scared or just unaware of how to communicate, hensh the barking. Have you raised him yourself or do you know his past?

Re: buster puppy class update.

ok well the only siluation i can think of is do not show any attention to him whe he is barking, don't stroke, shout, talk or pull him back as this will only encourage him to continue. If you do all these it should stop as he gets older, if not, taking him to behavioural classes for older dogs will probably be the best siluation till he stops.

hope this info helps

Re: buster puppy class update.

wll the puppy clas went ok he got squirted loads but he just seems to enjoy it

there was only three of us this week as the lady woth the jack russell didnt turn up but that didnt stop him barking at the labradoor but he was still fine with the rhodesian ridgeback but then she is very shy and the others arent

he was still barking at the others and now the shadow's aswell

and on the way home from the class he was barking at the cars aswell

i will keep up with the classes as i am not one to just give up on him. i wouldnt give up on one of my kids so i wont give up on him i just dont want us to get kicked out of the class the normal bloke isnt there next week we have got the boss man doing it so we will have to see what he has to say about him,

kittysoo is on a distinguished road
Re: buster puppy class update.

Good for you for your perserverance Lisa. I am finding it quite interesting to see how you are doing.

I took one of my pups to class but had a few problems with my Dad (he has dementia and missed about 3 classes in a row.

I got to the point where l was tired and miserable when l got home from work and the thought of dashing out to a class a few miles away over winter just did'nt appeal to me.
My hubby actually thought they were a waste of time.

I am looking for a new class and will start again, though this time have 2 pups to get sorted. I am clicker training in the meantime and have found a nice lady who has a placid dog a is going to help me with a bit socialization. My GSD who is 12 years old now and has always been a bit aggressive with other dogs, so l think it has passed to the little ones.

I think we are all fooled into thinking that all pups are perfect dog friendly little individuals and are totally shocked when they turn into little delinquents.

Anyway l just wanted you to know that l am enjoying popping in to see how you are getting on.

Good luck and please keep posting. Believe it or not your perserverance is actually helping us other owners to keep battling on.
