Re: Hates Other Dogs!!
Thats a difficult one! I know all the advice is too keep your baby on a lead and l would agree with that. Put him on an extension lead so you still have control of him at all times but he can still gallop around. With not being a big dog you must be handle him.
Just be very obersvant. I don't know how many dogs you come across in your walk. My Seiger is dog aggressive but that is my fault - l did not socialize him properly and also live in the back of beyond where meeting other people and dogs are a rareity. Firstly don't give up hope. I a sure with the right help you will be able to solve this, he is only a year old. Secondly just keep him and other dogs safe and have a look at "I need help" for the advice from Karen. If you were pack leader he would feel relaxed enough to let you to defend him. I didn't see the programe about death row dogs but l can imagine how bad it was. I think that 99% of all dog problems are down to us owners who are not very good pack leaders. If we can get ourselves trained then we will be able to train the dogs. Anyway thats my 2 pennies worth! PS Some one mentioned to me that you can usually claim on your pet insurance for behavourists. It might be worth a try plus try loading up dog aggression on your pc and see what comes up. Good luck - I'll keep an eye out on this thread to see how you are getting along. xxx Kittysoo ![]() |

Secondly as soon as a dog approaches by you putting the dog back on the lead and tensing at the sight of the other dog you are giving the wrong signals and giving him more reason to bark and be aggressive. When you walk passed male dogs in future and he is trying is dominance on the lead ignore his behaviour, by not tugging on the lead and shouting to stop him, but make him sit facing away from the dog and concentrating on a treat in you hand.I use the word 'sit', then taught our dog the word 'watch 'with the treat in front of the dogs face. When the dog has gone passed and he is well behaved give in the treat and praise him. |

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!
You could try and see if anyone near you has a training class that would be sympathetic to your needs a lot of this behaviour is down to not socialising them properly from a very young age . Your anxiety is being transmitted down the lead to your dog and he is sensing that and is maybe being agressive because thats what he sees as being the right thing to do . He needs to know his place and that starts at home the stronger you can become in his eyes the less likely he will be agressive towards other dogs . He wont see it as his place to get all stroppy if your not giving him a reason to .

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!
Again I'd say use the program to rebalance the pack structure inside the house. Keep him on leash till you have total respect. I had a case of an aggresssive mastiff and there was no holding him back and corrections didn't divert his attention at all. I resorted to a remote training collar. Last resort! And before you all jump up, A remote collar doesn't shock the dog with electricity. They reproduce static charge like a tens machine. This is alien to a dog so they react to it. These devices should only be used by an experienced handler. I used it for one session and saw dramatic results. I've used it for sleep worring and cattle aggression too. It offers quick results. I would never use it to train a dog only in life and death cases. If you think bad things are going to happen then it's an option I'd use but only as a last resort. first try to place yourself as alpha leader and see how you go.

That sounds very much like an E-Collar,the sooner these things are banned the better! I've seen the damage these can do to dogs. http://www.cmlrn.com/images/artwork/warner/neck1.jpg http://www.cmlrn.com/images/artwork/warner/neck3.jpg

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!
Like i said They need to be used by experience people! I've never seen a collar do that to a dog. I don't even think that it did. And it's banning things that are misunderstood that will one day eliminate dogs as family pets for good.
