Re: Hates Other Dogs!!

Looking at those puncture marks looks like bite marks to me. They resemble the prongs on the collar I admit but if so they would have to be forced into the neck with a hammer. These things happen as do dogs getting tied up with wire around their necks... Do you want to ban Wire too. It's licensing of tools that needs to happen not banning them because the can save lives. I'm all for that.

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!

If thats the case and they are a super training device why are the following calling for a ban on them?

•British Small Animal Veterinary Association and British Veterinary Association
•Scottish SPCA
•Scottish Kennel Club
•Kennel Club
•Dogs Trust
•RSPCA
•Blue Cross
•Association of Pet Dog Trainers
•Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors
•The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association
•Association of Chief Police Officers
•Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland
•UK Armed Forces

These are widely available to buy to the public,it should be positive training, not out of fear!

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!

Its all very well saying that these particular collars should only be used by experienced handlers, but they are available in nearly every pet catalogue and lots of stores. Also the electric invisable fencing systems leave a lot to be desired, ive seen this being used on a gsd pup, poor thing nearly jumped over backwards, several times.Isnt this type of training using pain to dominate dogs?

Re: Hates Other Dogs!!

I use it for aversion training. When dogs behaviour can not be altered any other way. There's a lot of anti people I agree just as there are alot of people who think staffies should be banned! I disagree with the selling practise and licenses should be needed. I did a full course to help safe and humane handling.

I offered this advice to the poster because It's an option that may help when all other routes are used. I think if other posters want to get into a debate over the pros and cons of the remote collar then one sound set up a new thread. This thread is for aggression problems and theres no advice being offered other than to keep the dog on a leash.

My advice follow the pack restructering program I have posted. Also I would try correction spray. When the dog moves forward towards another dog expell the can near but not directly at the dog. This interupts the brain. In time the dog will see another dog and it's brain will remember correction spray. Then your problem will disapear. You have need an extra pair of hands if you have trouble holding onto your dog. In time this process can control dog aggression.
