Just interested!
It can be done! But I wouldn't have the where withall to do it, I know someone who did, successfully train her weimerarners to working trial tracking dog standard, and she used to work them (or one of them at least) picking up I believe, as well as show them. But I'm still on the beginner Labradors, I quite like it at the learner level, I may stay there for some time

Have keep in the past both springers, labs and now weims, can say the few people that I know that work their weims that generally the weims are by far the hardest to train! BUT are far more versitile - and this comes from a gamekeeper who works both springers and weims! she told me that whenever they have been invited to a shoot they have always been asked back with the weimys!

As I said - it's a subject I am unable to contribute to with firm advise, but both my husband and his friends used ESS - don't know if it's true but I have been led to believe that the cockers have a harder mouth!
If anyone knows different feel free to correct me as I am genuinely interested

an old gamekeeper told me they are hard mouthed sometimes cos they are quite small and some bird's are heavy. My lab grip's on more when she's tired and as she's still young we stop
