Re: toilet training!

Everytime she eats or drinks something or wakes up, take her outside until she does her business and praise her when she has. She should soon get the hang of it

Re: toilet training!

don't say anything if puppy has an accident inside and you didn't catch it in the act (it teaches them to get attenion that way). You can get a spray ("housetrainng" I think - i got it from pets at home) which you spray where you want him to go (it stinks btw) but seems to work, and if puppy keeps going back to a particular spot inside you can spray some vinegar there.

There are charts in books about deveoplment that say roughly how many times your puppy will need to go, and that helps a bit.

Also learn your puppys body lang, ours has a little sniff and does a little dance before he goes.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thanks for the advice, Anna - this is only her third day with us, and already she does most of her business in the garden - we're really enjoying having her

Re: toilet training!

You'll need lots of patience,a puppy doesn't have any control over there bladder until they are around 6 months old.
You are doing the right thing by taking your pup out, stay out there with her until she performs, however long it may take, reward with lots of praise & a high value treat such as cheese, chicken etc......

Maybe link a word such as Be a "clean" Girl whilst she is performing,so she assoicates the two together, personally I never use paper as I think it tends to take puppies longer as you are giving the signal it's ok to go indoors.

When she Toilets Indoors, simply pick her up put her outside, don't say anything to her,Ignore what she has done & clean the area with Biological washing powder to get rid of the smell.

Young pups need to go out every hour, after meal times, playtimes, sleep etc....
You will get there it just takes time & patience.
Good Luck!
