Harnesses

Hi all,

We have a 6-month old Jack Russell who pulls terribly!
He pulls like a steam train and even spins himself around cos he pulls so much, whizzing about and zig-zagging!

We have tried him on a rope choker and at first it was great, he realised if he halted back then the pressure released and he walked well with encouragement and praise!

But now he has worked out how to "set" himself against it and he is back to walking badly!

Can anyone recommend a harness, I am concerned about his neck and back development being so young, have tried a Puppia but he is inbetween sizes and none fit properly!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Harnesses

Hi. I am not a fan of harnesses because they were designed for working dogs to pull.

You need to get to the root of the problem as to why he is behaving like this.

They have loads of energy, does he go off lead? I would practice lead walking him when you have removed some of his energy. Have you tried training classes? Or clicker training?

I use half check collars for my guys and for my staffi I use the Illusion coller from Dog Whisperer website. However, a calm walk is more a mental communication than a physical one. Imagine if you had a 10stone rottweiler? Most problems are caused by smaller dogs because they have less of an impact and you can physically restrain them.

I know of dog walking classes in my area which take place over the park. I am near Croydon.
