Re: crying at night help

Hi, I'm no expert but just wanted to say we've had our pup 2 weeks now and she's sleeping through the night, just cries if she needs to toilet, the first 5 nights were bad though. In the night I'd get a cushion and laid down next to her crate and waited for her to go to sleep then crept out, don't know if it was right or wrong but she'd have had the whole house up if I'd just left her! Just lonely I guess.
Hopefully just a short phase, but I do sympathise

Re: crying at night help

Luckily we never had a problem with Mika when we brought him home a month ago.

Only thing i can suggest is a hot water bottle or an old piece of your clothing in his crate. that should settle him/her. If not i can'tt hink of anything else but personally i wouldn't let him/her sleep in the bedroom with you because he/she will get a habit of sleeping in your room as he/she grows older, unless of course you don't care so much about that. But that is only my opinion.

Definitely agree with the last post, its a mistake and unfair to your pup to have it sleeping in your room unless you are always going to allow it. Get the pup to settle where you will want it to sleep eventually its a shame to settle it in your room then decide to move it and have to do all the settling all over again.

Re: crying at night help

Sounds like all good advice to me - when we got Lily (3weeks ago), she cried for 2 nights for about half hour and we left her, and she stopped after those 2 nights. She's now in a routine where when we microwave her heat pad, she takes herself straight to her crate and waits!!

Her bedtime routine is always the same -- out for the toilet, microwave heat pad, arrange toys and 'night-time' Kong. Routine will help, and your pup will soon get used to going to bed. We also used a night-light.

Re: crying at night help

I couldnt agree more with gordo, routine is the key to success they know exactly whats happening, what happens next and they feel secure and are more likely to settle. mine are established but if there is something out of the ordinary happening you can see them looking around not really knowing what to do.

Absolutely routine is key. I always leave Oscar with a stuffed Kong, day or night and on the couple of Occasions i haven't he has got really upset.
