I have done the opposite with Oscar and added food to his bowl while he was eating, have made the children do this too and he is bomb proof with his dinner, no guarding at all. Just the damn pigs ears. What a shame he does love them but my toddler is rather attached to her fingers too.
Obviously the problem needs nipping in the bud!!!! the fingers are not replacable !!! certainly I would refrain from giving treats for the time being!

Lots of good advice on how to deal with the food aggression, but just wanted to check how your daughter is now with the dog. The dogs food aggression is something you can overcome, a child developing fear of the dog as a result of a bad experience is presumably much harder?
Apologies if I'm being nosey or rude, I'm not intending (or have any reason) to question your parenting skills or cause offense. Just would hate to think this had put her off the pup.

Re: puppy bit the toddler!!!

No offence taken. Fortunately my daughter is tough as old boots and i took her back over to Oscar once he was out of solitary so he could say sorry.

If it had been my son we may have had a problem as he isn't quite so dominant.

I am happy that it wasn't a dominance issue with her because he had just done the same thing to me but he didn't get his teeth in.

I will remove the ears for now but i am worried that is not treating the root cause of the problem.

Having read all the posts i thought i would reintroduce in a couple of weeks and put him in the kitchen, away from children but he also can't hide in a corner (this seems to make him worse).

I thought i would then carry on with the treat, remove, give back thing.

What is the general opinion?

What should i do if he growls or snaps, should i just remove it and try again another day, should i isolate him if he does (i only remove him from the room for a couple of minutes) ?

There is a school of thought that sais taking it off them makes them more possesive over it and they should just be left alone, what does anyone think about that ??

I remember we had a springer when i was a kid and he was the most docile thing but you couldn't go near him if he had a bone and we all knew that so left him alone.
