Dog barks at just about everything on TV

I have seen a thread on this subject, but it didn't get any (serious) replies!!

My youngest cavalier barks at so many things on TV that we end up having to shut him in the kitchen... he then scratches at the door...

We have tried the Caesar method (shhhhht), sending him to his bed everytime he barks which doesn't seem to work either and ends up in the one sending getting up and down a trillion times and missing said TV programme

I've done the stones in bottle - that made no difference at all!!

He used to just bark at other dogs - now it's any animal, real or not, muffins, Xmas pudding (LOL, obviously a seasonal problem there!!) Football, newsreaders that are of 'coloured' persuasion, the DFS advert (don't blame him) - it really drives me crazy!

Has anyone got any suggestions???

Re: Dog barks at just about everything on TV

Does he enjoy spending time with you while you are watching tv? Or does he just love barking at it?
You could try just putting him out the room for a few mins, then when he stops, let him back in again and ask him to go and lie down. If he gets up to go bark at the tv, stop him and shut him out again, preferably before he gets into barking mad mode.. you need to snap him out of it before he starts barking away.
keep shutting him out the room as soon as he is going to bark at the tv

hopefully he will get bored/fed up of being sent out and realise that he only gets sent out when he barks.

don't forget to give him lots of praise when he is being quiet.

also, does he hav any fave toys/chews you could give him when he is sent to bed?

x

You probably will miss the TV programmes whilst you are trying to train him.
I would shhsshhtt him and reward when quiet. You probably won't get to watch tv for a couple of weeks, but it will be worth it in the long run.
