Re: Could I have opinions please?

After 3 nights of getting up every hour or so with Rocky where he would bark like a seal and bring the house down, we brought the crate into our room and hey presto not only did he stop barking at night, he started being OK with being in the crate during the day as well................ he now sleeps outside our bedroom in the hallway (still in his crate) and he is fine.

By about 4 months we started letting his stay in the hall/kitchen when we went out (he wouldn't stay in a bigger crate that we bought to give him more room in the daytime) and he's been fine, no chewing, or mess!

If you plan to keep him in the kitchen at night eventually, give him until he's toilet trained at night then slowly start moving the crate nearer and nearer the kitchen at night and he should be fine.

Have you considered trying her is a dog bed not in the crate?

She's never been in a crate, but as you say.. she loves it in there, so I don't think it's that. I've left her in her crate a few times in the first couple of days while nipping upstairs or into the kitchen - usually when she was asleep - but she's be on her feet within seconds and whining as soon as I'm out of sight. She settles alone better if the door is open and she can wander around, but I couldn't leave her in the lounge at night. She was in the kitchen last night with the door open, and it made no difference. Maybe her bed in the kitchen with no crate might be an idea... but as she likes the crate, I'm not sure. Thaks for the ideas

lol they can be just like kids can't they...you will get there in the end...good luck and please keep us up to date...
Thanks for the reassurance it's the neighbours I'm worrying about. I have an old couple one side who have been lovely, but I worry about them... and an ex-friend on the other side who complained after the first night and we've fallen out - her doing I might add!!

Have you tried a DAP diffuser in the room with her? I've never used one (luckily always had chilled out dogs) but I've heard they can work really well for stressed little ones.
Yeah, 4 days isn't long for us, but my neighbour doesn't think so!! I haven't tried the DAP, just because they're so expensive and might not work - sounds silly I know. But I also read it can take a few weeks to work.

I might try her bed in the kitchen tonight without the crate, and if that doesn't work, I'm probably going to move her into our room in her crate.. I just hope it doesn't make the dependency worse

Thanks for the advice - any other ideas, I'm all ears!!

Re: Could I have opinions please?

Cansy did this when we first brought her home. in the end w gave in and let her sleep in our room she was fine after that then after that we moved her back out ito the dinning room and she started again so we pup misty out with her adn thats whee they have slept ever since. I don't think candy would ever cope on her own if misty ever left. She was spoilt as a pup and i know i will pay if and when she is ever on her own.

Thanks! That gives me hope! I'm not bothered about her being in the bedroom, but there is little room for the crate, so hopefully eventually she will sleep in her bed in there

Re: Could I have opinions please?

we had the exact same issues with Isla. she has major separation anxiety and we tried everything.
sounds like your doing all the right things, its only been 4 days. maybe you should go round to your neighbours and explain the situation, being freindly about it and say that it will hopefully only be for a few weeks until puppy settles. kinda get them on side.
as for Isla....we got skye a week ago and we have had no issues at all since so maybe at a last resort another dog may be a solution - but be careful it may turn into double trouble.....not to mistake you DT!!!!

Re: Could I have opinions please?

Hi. WE let our dogs sleep on the floor of our bedroom. We resorted to this after having problems at night. Now we have perfect night sleeps. However I am happy for my dogs to always be upstairs, if you don;t want this then you have no choice but to persevere.

Re: Could I have opinions please?

Well, we put the crate in our room and decided - seeing as she's 99% housetrained, that it can stay up there. She is not allowed up there usually because the cats are upstairs until we get them integrated.

The night was a huge success. She went potty at 11.30pm, then I put her in her crate with her teddy (in our room) and we went to bed but left the lamp and tv on for 1/2 hour.. then turned everything off. The next thing we knew it was 7.15am and the alarm was going off. She made no sound all night. Woo! She's much more awake today and seems happier somehow - but still clingy so we're working on that. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Great news, I'm sure when she's settled in she will be ok downstairs, she's just nervous and stressed at the moment

Re: Could I have opinions please?

For three nights our pup TT cried in her crate at night. On the fourth night my husband put his dressing gown on the top of the crate, so she had his smell (and the tie up to chew), we didnt have a peep out of her in the nights afterwards, after about a week we removed the dressing gown (he was getting abit cold by then!). She was absolutely fine after this.
Try giving her something with your smell on to cuddle !!!!!
