Re: recall tips?
he might just be testing his boundries as hes getting older, try calling him back at regular intervals and reward him with a treat every time so he associates coming back when you call with treaties!!!!

Re: recall tips?
hi, it sounds like his prancing ,growling and then running off is another way of playing as well as being defiant, you ought to keep him on a long lead and keep recalling him as soon as he is a few steps away and then give him some sort of treat

Re: recall tips?
Sounds like he is going through the (theres' a dogs name for this that escapes me - think it's the 'normans' ) - Maybe it would be a good idea to keep hiom on a long (20ft ish) trianing lead and getting this off to perfection (bearing in mind his size)

Re: recall tips?
training lead sounds good
no matter how long it take him to come back to me i alway tell him hes a good boy for comin back and never tell him off, if i tell him off when he finally comes back then he wont want to come back as he will think when he does he will be in trouble. |

Re: recall tips?
You can get training leads up to 50ft on ebay - personally with a dog that size I wuld not feel confident with a lead that long and would maybe go for one 20ft max. due to being out of action myself I have gone back to a trining lead with my one year old - will continue to use it until she is hopefully 'bombproof'

Re: recall tips?
I used a horse lunge line with Inca and always praised her when she came back to me. I must admit though that when we first let her completely off the lead on the meadows, I worried she wouldn't come back. You have to decide how far you want the dog to go before you become uncomfortable, then call them back and treat. I also found it useful that our other dog didn't stray far so calling one, brought the other back. Sometimes we have problems, when she sees other dogs and races off to play. A really high, silly voice usually brings her back, and then of course, treat. I don't think dogs defy you, they just think what they are doing is more fun than returning.
