anti-bark spray collars

Im still having trouble getting Isla to stop barking at everything and every one whilst we are out on walks. where i live, not many poeple have dogs (or bother taking them on walks) so when we're out Im concious that she is scaring people with her barking and have had a few nasty glares from passers by.
has anyone tried anti bark spray collers and are they any good?
Isla is a mini schnauzer so you can imagine she's very vocal!!!
can any one help??

Re: anti-bark spray collars

I have the spray commander (the lemon spray one) brought it about 6 years ago for my then 18 month old dog - he was barking badly whenever people passed the gate - it had not effect on him whatsoever BUT - have said that just lent it to a friend who recently had chickens and one one the dogs was obsessed with them - again it had little effect. I tried it on my now older dog ( 8 now) and he was certainly payying attention to it - but he doesn't need it now anyway. I am going to try it on my youngest this next week - will let you know
regards
DT

ps - have a friend who recently purchased a rally cheap one for her barking dog - and it had done wonders

Re: anti-bark spray collars

Before you buy one why don't you ask your vet. I rented one from my vet for William my greyhound. I found although it worked for a couple of days with him he soon figured out if he shook or ignored it and barked anyway he would empty the spray and then could bark as much as he wanted.

its a collar with a small device which sprays a small shot of air into the dogs face when they bark. it doesnt harm them but its unpleasant. they eventually associate barking with the shot so hopefully reduces barking, in theory it sounds good.

I had a friend who used one and the same thing happened, worked for a while and then it was ignored. If you are only using it while out for a walk it may work as your dog won't have time to work it out

Re: anti-bark spray collars

I tried one once. It didn't work for mine but it did for my husband! Bailey would bark and cry when he came home from work. When he bent down to pet her he would get sprayed in the face! He stopped doing that until we took of her collar! I have used a bark collar with a battery.Samson would bark nonstop until we tried it. We only had to use it a couple of times and he stopped. If I have to I can put it on (without battery) and he'll be fine. This was the last resort however. I don't like these things left on dogs. We only used it a couple of times outside, never in the house. There are also devices that use sound that we can't hear for large areas. I don't know how well they work.
