Used to be fine, now dog won't go through night without a no2!

Hi Everyone

We've got a 30 month old border collie who has been crated at night for her whole life and is very well house trained.

Never had any night time barking etc apart from very recently.

We nearly always go to bed at 10pm, she has her dinner at 6pm. Always has plenty of time just before 10pm to go to the toilet outside (and always does both) BUT!

At (almost) exactly 3AM every morning she barks as if she wants to go out. We've got up, let her out and yep, she's needed a no2. Back to bed and she's fine until morning (7 or 8am).

Her food has not changed, quantity not changed etc so why would this be and how can be help train it out?

We've tried her up in our bedroom in her bed and exactly the same - 3am wining.

What we haven't done yet is to put a cover over her crate and just ignore until morning, but seems wrong as she seems to be asking to go out!

Could it be that she's got a bit of a medical problem that we've not spotted or don't understand?

Thanks

Will.

Not certain about medical problem but what a clever dog asking to be let out.

Feed earlier so she has more time to empty her bowels before bed time, ignore her when she barks to force her to break the habit. If the problem persists get her checked over by a vet.
