wen we first got nessie(our westie) we tried hard to stop her barking in garden ... wen we are in she barks at the postman and the hoover only ... obviously wen we not in we dont know wat she does ... she has lots of toys and the tv is kept on too .. any suggestions .. this has upset me .

Re: help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long is your dog left alone for every day?

How much exercise does she get a day?

If your dog is bored, and has a lot of pent up energy, then this may contribute to the barking. Can you take her for a brisk, or long, walk every morning? Then she should be calmer when you get home.

No dog should be left alone regularly for longer than four hours. If your dog is being left, on a regular basis, for longer than four hours, then maybe you can get a friend or relative or even a dog walker/sitter to pop in and play with her or walk her?

I can empathise with your neighbour. I am crazy about dogs but I would not want to live next door to a constantly barking dog!

Re: help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too have westies and has a westie owner I know what you mean, they all love to bark.
we have a girl and a boy, Billy and Daisy

Billy has the loudest bark in the world and Daisy could bark for ever without getting a sore thoat

But it does get better, Billy caimed right down when he turned 2 and Daisy at 2 1/2.

we tried everything and found closing the curtains was the best cure

Do you have any other dog owners on your street, we found that once billy and daisy had met all the dogs in the area, they didnt bark half as much. but they have both been loud this week as a new dog has moved in 3 doors down, we will introduce them at the weekend and hopfully this will stop them

Lots of thread with a similar theme in these pages - you would be wise to read the experiences of others in your situation.
