Today we just went back to basics & I used her lead attached to her collar rather than her harness. At times when she has it attached to her harness she just puts her head down & PULLS

I still keep her in a harness as she likes to swim in the river when we go out so the harness comes in handy should I ever need to pukll her out (she only swims along the river bank not out in to the middle)
Just occurred to me, and might not be of any use to you, but are you walking both dogs together on lead or have you just got Roxy? Diva likes to pull, given half a chance, and I do keep a headcollar on her along the pavement, but I have found I can walk her a short distance without it so long as I have two hands free. One hand has the end of the lead, the other is right down near the dog, keeping her back. You have probably already tried this, but just an idea.

As you know we go to Magog Downs mostly and I had been having to keep her headcollar on just to get from the car to the field, as she gets so excited, but the last couple of times I have been able to hold her without it as long as I don't have both dogs. I drag my son along to hold Ferdie!

Re: Is it the lead that's the problem?

I usually walk them seperately at weekends so it is easier then. If we are walking together then she HAS to be infront of Toby she's not been to bad up until recently when it has gotten worse again.

When we went to the beach she was so excited that she didn;t even pull, just started jumping towards the beach so my OH just had to hold on tight. Next time, I think we have to be a bit more strict & if she starts doing that then we stop & not let her pull towards where she wants to go otherwise she is just rewarded for the behaviour.

Thinking about it, she seems to pull more when my OH & I are out & he has one dog & I have the other. She doesn't like us being split up & panics a bit if this happens.

Having said all this she has been so much better recently, she really has made massive improvements.

Is it an 'anti pull' harness or a regular harness? If the latter, then yes, you may well find it helps your girl pull

I tried quite a few anti pull harnesses but to be honest, they did not help. However, I have read really good reviews of the Walkezee harness - never used one but thought I'd mention it in case it helps

Re: Is it the lead that's the problem?

I had that problem with Woody, he would pull me all over the place when on a short lead.

So now I let him have a loose lead and only restrain him when I need to, he;s a lot better on a loose lead, also I talk to him all the time whilst walking on lead, get a sore throat but heyrolleyes:

I think I got in to a bit of a habit of clipping the lead to her harness rather than her collar which obvioulsy made it easier for her to pull.

I too have used many different harnesses (including the Walkezee one) but she has soon learnt how to pull again.

Tbh I really don't think Roxy will ever be the sort of dog that find walking to heel easy so even loose lead walking would be a massive bonus.

Today was fantastic though even though my OH was with us. Usually he gets impatient & starts moaning if have to stop/start several times

The trainer we spoke to yesterday advised me to just change direction once Roxy starts to pull & almost walk in to her as I do so. After several times of doing this she turned to look at me as if to say' Well, whcih way are we going then?' - which is exactly what I want rather than her leading the way.

I clipped her lead on several times during our walk & tried this technique & it really did work every time. I know this won't be (another!) over night fix but at least it is simple & has been effective
