Unhappy Peeing: Behavior, Food or Reaction?

Okay, so today I took Bella to the vet for a general check up, her claws were clipped, her glands squeezed, a quick steroid injection to calm any itches then back home. Because we walked to the vets and back we didn't go for our normal walk.

She ate as normal, went out a few times as normal, a frequent visitor came round and she lay in front of the fire as normal. She finished off a large rawhide bone (larger than usual) and at about 11pm we went to bed (a bit later than usual) she went out before we went to bed..

Bella sleeps at the bottom of the bed and has access to the landing and stairs by the front door, the living room is closed off by a door. She has a water bowl by the bedroom door. Tonight she hasn't settled, she's drunk lots of water and peed at the bottom off the stairs

I can't understand it, she's only had one accident and that was on the first day she came to stay with me. I'm more inclined to believe it was the injection that has caused it as it's the only different thing I can think off. Can anyone confirm or suggest reasons? She still won't settle now but she's lying next to me licking my arm.

Agreed - such inoculations/injections can effect dogs in different ways, causing greater than normal thirst and so urination and the feeling of illness within a dog.

Whenever we have something like this on the radar it switches us into extra observation and light duties mode for 48 hours, but generally our dogs just sleep and seem less interested in doing anything for the next 18 hours or so.

Re: Peeing: Behavior, Food or Reaction?

Hi
Rawhide bones make my dog Woody drink lots of water too and he can't hold it in at night so he eventually goes in the bathroom and leaves me a mess.

Yesterday I bought him a Ham bone from Home Bargains for 89p and he loves them but again he drinks lots of water. I went to bed last night and left the bathroom door open just in case he wanted to go.

Well during the night I went and shut the door before returning to bed. I got woke up this morning by Woody telling me it was time to get up and he needed a wee real bad, well he had already done one earlier near the bathroom because I shut the door during the night. So my fault for shutting the door on him.

So I would think it was the rawhide bone you gave your dog and drank too much water and desperately needed to go.
