Re: Advice on house training needed please!
Its all a matter of time and patience I'm afraid. Some puppies take longer than others.
I would pop him outside about every 40 minutes as a matter of course as well as after a nap and say something like "go wees" and praise when he does. I took on a little rescue sheepdog pup about 18 days ago. She is about 14-15 weeks old now and is wetting on her bed in her crate every night. She was also doing the same when put in her crate during the day when I walked my older dogs or nipped to the shops but that's gradually getting better. She just doesn't understand yet but she will and so will yours. Puppies are a lot of hard work and my kitchen resembles a Chinese laundry....LOL |

Re: Advice on house training needed please!
have you got him out walking yet? that can make a big difference once they start walkies as they wee non stop through excitement (once you can get them to wee in the first place)
what breed is he? if he is going to get a lot bigger then remember that bladder has a lot of growing to do. took us months to toilet train Trouble but Stark has been very easy so i think sometimes its the dog (like humans) some take a bit longer. keep the food regular, keep the toilet trips regular, give the house a thorough clean to get rid of ll traces of wee and poo and don;t let hi out of your sight for a week or two good luck and don;t be hard on yourself, i dont think Trouble was fully toilet trained until she was about 6 months ![]() |

Re: Advice on house training needed please!
Thank you for your advice.
He is a choc lab x weim so he still has a lot of growing to do. He is walked twice everyday and he always wees at least once when he is out. I know you are all right and we just need to be patient it is just very frustrating knowing that he can hold is bladdder when he needs to (when he is in his crate) but then wees so much on the carpet when is out! I will keep my eye on him for now and will let you know how we progress! |

Re: Advice on house training needed please!
Hi
Is he holding it too long then and when you let him out he just does it. Maybe shorten the time when he is in his crate and then take him straight outside. Colin & Woody Edit: He looks cute and lovely photos

Re: Advice on house training needed please!
We have a 4.5month old whippet mix. She will still sneak off in to the spare room or the end of the hall to wee whenever we don't keep an eye on her. She is definitely getting a lot better though.
A few things to think about... Some advice we were given than seemed to work was to clean the area she last did a wee very well, then spread her food (dry kibble) over that area. Puppies will not go to the toilet in eating areas. Obviously this isn't fool proof, but seemed to help. Also, we try to encourage her to drink small amounts very regularly. We found that if she drinks her fill of water all in one go, she would then pee every five mins for the next hour. Thank god for laminate flooring eh?
