Thumbs up Re: Sasha the aggresive shih tzu

i understand what u mean by [aggressive behaviour.i would use the word issues as aggression can mean alot of things.i had a shih tzu which was eight yrs old and i could not go near his face or head or even put his collor on/off or he would attack, and my hands were a mess.dogs can smell fear in humans so if you are nervous around ur dog when he is acting strange back off.my answer to you would be to be strong and if ur dog growls/barks at you to keep still and tell him/her with a firm voice NO(dont shout).HE/SHE WILL BACK OFF as he sees you as the strong leader as dogs wont listen to weak leaders and will walk all over you..be consistent and your dog will become loyal.

Re: Sasha the aggresive shih tzu

HI. Just to let you know in reference to my above post. I have now eliminated the aggression issues in the house. I have had people over and my dad now reguarly comes over on his own. I have also just added a third rescue to my two and things are really good.

I'm not sure if you took any of the above advice, but it sounds as though your dog is completely ruling your house. In many cases when a dog behaves like this it is because of weak leadership. (sorry if that sounds harsh, it was why my guys began behaving like that) If the pack leader is not in control then the dog will try to take over and begin to demonstrate dominance/aggression.

Vicky

PS What have you done to try to resolve this so far?

nice advice there, i always walk straight in dont use my hands i use my body as this is how dogs work in body language, im helping a couple at the mo with GSD as they have always put in kitchen when visitors comes so now visitors are bad, he would attack as he is so scared its not dominace its fear, they crate him when i get there and he barks and barks we make no eye contact and very little movement he dose calm down he gets his fav treat which his cheese i walk out of the house they let him out then i come back in and hes doing really well, his barking as calmed and his confidence is building but it was a matter of life and death for the poor man but i can see light at the end of the tunnel for him x
