I have a strong doberman..I'll do the head collar training in the garden but I'm worried when I take him for a proper walk what he'll be like around oncoming people/dogs...With a neck collar, I end up flat on my face and I dont want to put myself through that so usually avoid people as much as I can.
I feel bad cos it's restricting our walks more and more.
I can hold on to Ferdie with his headcollar but I won't say it isn't hard. He is three stone heavier than me! If it is another dog or something, I usually turn him away which is easier, but sometimes people actually talk to him and if they have done that, I don't normally put too much effort in. After all, they started it! But I can hold him close if there is something that I don't want to keep him away from, but don't want him charging up to, like a small child.

Diva still fights it if she wants to get to something, so that makes it harder, but I can still hold her and Ferdie knows now that he isn't going anywhere so he doesn't fight.

I was walking him once when this woman came out of the field with a long line gathered up on her staffie/rottie cross. She asked if her dog to say hello to him, and I said fine, Ferdie is good with other dogs. We got about 3 ft away and the thing flew at him! I turned him away quickly as he would have torn into Ferdie if I hadn't but it was easy to do.

Then the silly woman said: Oh, he's playing! Yeah, right!

Re: Finally got my Dogmatic head collar!

Thanks again for your reply,
Dan is amazing off the lead around dogs, people and even small children, but I think thats way he's so bad on the lead cos he just want to figure people out and get to know them..which I'm preventing him from doing on the lead!
