Re: dogs and cats
Smokeybear has an interesting article which she shared with me when I asked this question.
However I knew my Louie would just want to play and the novelty would wear off after a week - and it has and everything is fine now. Benjie has chased with the intent to kill cats before and he is fine.
We did it where the cat was crated, one dog at a time, allowed to sniff and when they paid no attention to the cat the cat was let out.
Benjie was muzzled when we let the cat out - just as a precaution - funnily enough Benjie is the least interested in the cat and lets him through doors and up the stairs first - amazing, yet the other day he attempted to chase a cat in the street, so he's just odd.
But there are different techniques and things to think about, like prey drive and chase instinct.. if your dog is high in either of these then you will work really hard.
