Me again - fire issues

Hiya,

So how am I meant to stop Barney being scared of the fire?

He's frightened of it regardless of it crackling or not. I'm guessing it's linked to fireworks and his fear of that but I'm not sure how to help him.

It's burning away right now but making no noise but he's cowering in the corner and won't settle even if we pick him up onto our laps.

Any suggestions on how to reassure him would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Me again - fire issues

Is it a real fire or a gas fire? He is probably just afraid of the heat that comes out of it, and the only way to overcome it is to put some treats down and move them a bit closer every time. If it is a gas fire, you can turn the heat down to very low to start with. Do you have a fire guard around it? If it is an open fire you really should have and that might make him feel more confident.

I would say though, that it is no bad thing if he doesn't want to get too close. One of my newfies caught his tail on fire last year by getting too close. He wasn't injured, but I burned my hands putting it out.
