Re: staffy's

Hi,

I have a Staffie x. I got her from a rescue centre last February.
She is lovely, apart from the pulling - very strong.
Her temperament couldn't be better, she gets on very well with my 4 yr old son. I think Jessie is crossed with a Collie, although I'm convinced there is a Whipet/ greyhound in her, she is soooo fast!!!
I took her training when I firsthad her, but after 15 wks gave up, as I didn't seem to be getting anywhere, she is very lively.
I am sure with your experience of handling other dogs, a Staffie will be no probs!

Helen

Re: staffy's

I know quite a lot of people with staffies, they're such sweet dogs, and they seem to thrive on playing with kids, and they're very tolerant... a pretty good all-round breed, I think

Re: staffy's

Hi there, I was looking for a bit of help and advice about my staffy. I rescued her from the kennels in November. She was badly injured at the time (we think due to her being involved in a fight) and needed lots of tlc...which she got!! She's only roughly 9 months old now so I realise she's still a pup but she cries all the time and its beginning to drive me nuts!! She's well fed, she has a comfy bed to sleep on, she gets lots of attention and lots of walks but she still cries a lot...too much! Is there anything I can do, i.e. maybe take her to behaviour classes??

Re: staffy's

yea classes would help her with socialisation and basic obedience- that will help in every day life to. if she is still crying in her crate might be worth putting it where she can see you then slowly over time moving it further away until its in the place that you want it to be in!

Hi Lexia
Welcome to the site. Does your dog cry at anything specific or just generally all the time? What do you do when she does cry? It may be something that she will stop on her own when she feels really settled. Dogs can be very sensitive and even living in the house might be stressing her, it is hard to know unless you know her background. I would ignore any crying dont talk to her. You could also try stopping her by playing with her and taking her mind of whatever she is distressed about. Be very careful that you are not rewarding her for crying though, it is a fine line lol.

Re: staffy's

Thank you StaffyMad and Vizzy24 for replying. I have a wee bed for her in the living room practically beside the sofa so she's always with us. She hates being left alone but Im sure she isnt the only dog like that! Im putting all the crying down to whatever happened to her before I got her as she was really badly injured and underfed. Ive been told that because she's a bitch, whatever did happen to her will probably always stay with her, as in, she takes things to heart a lot more than a (male) dog would. I suppose it's still early days, we've only had her a few months, and so hopefully she'll settle down more this year!!

Thanks again for your advice. I'll keep you posted
