Anyone know of these trainers?

Barking Mad Dog Training School Hertfordshire

Any info welcome. I'm liking the sound of the low impact agility.

This would be for Zak (dog reactive, like a cat on a lead, hence his nickname of pussy cat).

I dont really care about the cost, but I would like a dog who doesn't try to dominate any dog smaller than him by attacking it (then best friends ) and one who is able to walk on a lead without whining and rearing up like a pony.

My daughter used to train with them, and she certainly never had anything bad to report

There are two in North Hertfordshire, both called Barking Mad. One is the huge great franchise company which does dog walking and sitting as well. One is a small outfit operating out of Bassingbourn. The franchise one will definitely charge a lot more and probably not qualified trainers.

The smaller outfit advertises in the local newspaper.

It looks like the one you are linking to is the franchise company. Their head office is in Graveley, where they have a training school which I went to once with my retriever - just once, he dragged me out of the door. But that was many years ago. I don't know what they are like, just wanted you to know there are two with the same name.

Re: Anyone know of these trainers?

Thank you, newfiesmum. They are affiliated companies. I'm somewhat taken aback at the prices. I understand the main office is associated with Dog Borstal. I like the no nonsense style of training (but with kindness, I am ridiculously soppy about my dogs) but I wonder if I could get something closer to home at half the price for the same result.

Alpha dog training is in North Mimms and it is run by the bloke who trains dogs for tv. He really knows what he is doing and I would definitely go with him if he is nearer. I don't know why he uses that name, because he is not a pack leader enthusiast and is very up to date.

His email is steve.mann@alphadogtrainingschool.co.uk

I would highly recommend him as he loves dogs and I know how he works.

Re: Anyone know of these trainers?

I don't know about Barking Mad, but I can recommend Clare and co at the Family Dog in Redbourn.
Dog and Puppy Training, Behaviour Services – Redbourn, Harpenden, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, Luton, Watford, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

We took Solo to classes there, and one of mums friends took her on-lead aggressive spaniel there for one-to-one training and behaviour work with great success.

Re: Anyone know of these trainers?

Many businesses begin with the letter A because it is the first one people come across in the telephone directory.

Let us remember that Alpha is the Greek letter for "A", just because it has been hijacked by some members of the canine fraternity is neither here nor there.
