I'm no expert but I would use a small water bottle and say a firm NO everytime she does it! She will get the idea that its unacceptable.

Re: barking mad-barking at passers by!

You don't say what type of dog she is.

Guarding breeds are extremely territorial, and will protect their space and owners. However, when barking becomes excessive it is a problem.

I would strongly recommend that you take both your dogs training, since this will help to socialise them with both strangers and other dogs.

If you are going to start using water bottles and rattle bottles, it should be done under professional instruction, since you can do more harm than good. Hope this helps

Re: barking mad-barking at passers by!

had a similar problem with Rainbow after she went away for her season back to the breeder, i think she picked up bad habbits from them. it was a nightmare tryint to walk her after it but paid off and she is back to normal now. just time and effort is what put Rainbow right, i hope yours are getting on better.

You can only really generalise on a forum, and some problems really do need expert advice. A trainer would work with you both to address the barking, but do try and get a recommendation, rather than pick a trainer from google, or the phone book

Best of luck.

Re: barking mad-barking at passers by!

If you can get sky 3 then watch the dog whisper with ceaser millan he is fantastic. It sounds like your dog believes he is pack leader and needs to protect you, dogs do not understand our world and need to be at the bottom of the pack in order to be happy. you need to eat before your dog without interruption, you need to lead the walk, as the leader of the pack is the hunter and the strong one and be the one they follow! When you leave your house and your dog chews things its because they r worried about you, as they believe it is their job to look after you and they cant as you are not there, thats why when you get in and they bound at you, you must ignore them, say hello to other members of the family, wait until your dog is calm and then call them over to say hello to them! Do all these things together and things should slowly change for the better! Hope that helps you.

Re: barking mad-barking at passers by!

I remember how stressed out i got when i walked Rainbow, i found her very embarssing and thought people would think she was a vicious dog when really she just didnt understand things and how to behave. But i knew if i got stressed it would go right down the lead to her and she would react to it. Time is the only thing that helped with Bow and now she is fine as i have said. how are you getting on with her now? im sure it will get better.
