stood on pups foot several times past 2 days

our Bella (3 month lab pup) has been getting really close to me, sneaking up behind and ive stood on her feet several times in past 2 days alone, her yelps frighten the hell out of me and my natural reaction is to shout with fright and she runs off, her paws seem ok but im concerned as to why she is doing this continually.. you would think she would learn after the first or second time, she is a clever dog... its peeing me off because im having to go looking for her and re-assure her afterwards and i feel like a tw*t cos im hurting her both physically and emotionally with the shouting

she has always been clsoe to us and we watch where we are going, always looking over shoulders but sometimes just forget too...

just venting my frustrations i suppose.... any advice here?

thanks

Re: stood on pups foot several times past 2 days

took trouble ages to learn to not get under mummy's feet, especially when i was trying to cook, she probably in the end got big enough for me to see her first. now Stark is doing it (she loves eating my slippers which doesn't help) and i feel a bit sorry for her but try to just ignore it and not shout.
if this is a new trait for Bella I'd keep an eye on it, any dramatic changes in temperament should be monitored, just try keep calm for the time being when you do it but knowing she's doing something wrong when she gets under your feet won't be a bad thing as long as it doesn't affect her recall, good luck

Could you maybe put a bell on her collar for awhile that way you will hear her when she walks up close to you?
Bea likes this.

That's what we did. We have a little Min Pin who was always everywhere and would get under foot constantly. We bought him a little cat collar with a bell......problem solved He still gets trod on from time to time but only when he's in ultra stealth mode.

Re: stood on pups foot several times past 2 days

Oscar used to get stood on/caught in doors all the time as a pup, he just didn't get the hang of 'move out of the way' he's usually pretty good at it now, but sometimes little idiot will just walk directly under my feet while we're out on walks and get fully stood on! I don't know why he does it! Must be a concentration lapse.
I used to shout in surprise when I'd done it, but I guess she will get stood on enough times to learn to keep clear of our clumsy human feet.

Re: stood on pups foot several times past 2 days

Puppy shuffle?

Sadie had a habit and still does from time to time, lay behind me as I take things out of the oven.. several burns later and a lot of shouting as she has a bed out of the way but near me she's learnt to go to bed, although sometimes she will lay behind me..

But I wouldn't shout at a puppy.. I only shouted because I got burnt - scars to prove it too..

Louie never got under my feet though.. I don't think..
